We missed the mid-week point by a couple days, but this was partially intentional as the list was a little thin as of Wednesday. Thankfully, we’ve had a couple more releases come through the woodwork since then so we have a more complete, albeit still short list of videos for you this week.
David Choi – “Rollercoaster”
David returns with this Forever and Ever single. Instead of going the super crisp, vibrant route, Choi & company have opted for a more creative and fluid video via usage of dollys, props, and smart editing. The song isn’t as memorable on it’s own, but it pairs nicely with this video.
Decipher – “Lady Luck”
Decipher has been at work on his next album and one track that will be on the project is “Lady Luck”. Rap fans should nearly always appreciate a DC drop, and this mostly remains true with this drop. I can’t say I’m crazy about the hook but the rest of the track is on point. The video is middle of the road but thankfully doesn’t rely on the usual Hip-Hop cliches. Look for that cameo by Awkwafina.
Lil Crazed - “Time Will Tell”
Crazed drops a more instropsective track for his latest single off To Whom It May Concern. It’s a standard studio type of visual, but it works fairly well for the song. Frequent collaborators of LC, Jargon and IBU’s Mike, make cameos. It’s a chill production all around.
BellyOut – “Here We Go”/”Summertime”
Big Pete of BellyOut reps the DMV at all times He isn’t about to break character with his latest MV for his two songs, “Here We Go” and “Summertime” either. The tracks are a pair of laid back tunes that I can appreciate though the first half of the video had too much of a Old-School-DMX/Ruff Ryders type of vibe for my taste. But it was dope to see the Virginia heads coming together to represent. See if you can spot Mani, C-Note, Lyricks and more.
AJ Rafael – “Happiest Place on Earth”
I hope AJ’s getting some coinage from Disney because this is basically a 3 minute commericial for Disneyland in song form. That being said, it’s a light-hearted, fun affair that anyone can enjoy and that you shouldn’t take too seriously. Artistic gold, this is not, but it never intends to be either.
Bruno Mars – “Gorilla”
Unorthodox Jukebox has been a big success for the Filipino/Puerto Rican-American singer. And it looks to continue with the latest single, “Gorilla”. The songs smooth and catchy enough that if you don’t pay attention, you wouldn’t realize just how raunchy and ridiculous it is, but I guess that can be said for a couple of his songs. As for the video… well let’s just say it doesn’t stray too far from the spirit of it’s source material.
